Job Description

JOB TITLE 

Regular part-time specialized educator

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT 

Reporting to general management, the specialized educator will have the opportunity to participate in the development of residents support practices. Through his/her observations, knowledge of the file and information gathering, he⸱elle contributes to the evaluation of residents needs, abilities, lifestyle habits, behaviors and actively participates in the follow-up of interventions.

MAIN RESPONSABILITIES 

Among other responsibilities, he⸱she:

  • Plans and leads activities
  • Creates materials and visual tools to support residents according to their needs
  • Assists with hygiene and meals
  • Participates in various committees and team meetings
  • Uses alternative communication strategies (PECS, TEACCH)
  • Writes progress and observation notes and fills out rating and follow-up grids.
  • Collaborates and communicates relevant information to colleagues
  • Ensures follow-up and accompaniment to medical appointments as required
  • Distributes medication under Bill 90 (training provided following hiring)
  • Supports residents in their daily tasks and routines
  • Plans, organizes and leads educational activities

SCHEDULE

Day shift: 7:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (as needed)
Evening shift: 1:45 pm to 9:30 pm or 2:20 pm to 10:05 pm (as needed)
1 weekend out of 2

REQUIRED TRAINING 

  •  DEC in Special Education Technique
  • Experience working with people with autism spectrum disorders and/or mental health problems and/or living in a residence offering a long-term living environment

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Have at heart the well-being of the residents⸱e⸱s, have the ability to anticipate needs, demonstrate dignity and ensure the protection of the person accompanied.
  • Possess certain qualities such as: caring, listening skills, good communication skills, be emphatic, versatile⸱e, autonomous and have the ability to establish relationships based on trust and good teamwork skills
  • Specific training in the reality of people with autism spectrum disorders is a considerable asset.
  •  First aid/CPR skills (asset)
  • Attestation de formation pour l'administration de médicaments et de soins invasives d'assistance (Bill 90) (asset)
  • Therapeutic intervention for aggressive behavior (ITCA) (asset)
  • Valid driver's license
