The Véro & Louis Foundation, an organization dedicated to the well-being and fulfillment of autistic adults aged 21 and over, with or without intellectual disabilities, is proud to announce a significant expansion of its services with the expansion of the Véro & Louis Home in Varennes, and the unveiling of the first prototype image of the second home soon to take place in the Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec region. These initiatives are designed to meet the growing demand for long-term adapted housing for adults with autism, while offering a warm, inclusive and educational environment.
Expansion of the Varennes home
Starting this fall, the first Véro & Louis Home for autistic adults will welcome new residents. The expansion, which begins this summer, will not only accommodate a greater number of autistic people in an environment specially designed to meet their unique needs, but will also offer new living spaces enabling them to welcome their families into their home, develop their culinary skills in an educational kitchen, and take part in stimulating activities in a new activity room.
New spaces are also planned for the team of qualified professionals at Véro & Louis Home, who provide ongoing support to residents, promoting autonomy, social integration and the development of their independence.
Unveiling of the new Victoriaville home in Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec
At the same time, the Véro & Louis Foundation, in partnership with the François Bourgeois Foundation, is pleased to unveil the first 3D prototype image of its new Véro & Louis Home, which will be located in Victoriaville, on land donated by the city. Located in a peaceful, natural setting, this housing environment is designed by the Victoriaville firm ARTEFAC Architecture, in close collaboration with Virginie LaSalle, professor and researcher at the Faculté de l'aménagement de l'Université de Montréal. Since 2018, Dr. LaSalle has been leading various research projects with Véro & Louis Home, always with a view to improving the proposed accommodation model in real time.
Aware of the extraordinary collaborative spirit of the entire community in the Centre-du-Québec region, the Véro & Louis Foundation and the François Bourgeois Foundation are committed to working with the community to proceed with the next stages of construction. The timetable will be announced in the coming months.
The new home will offer a calm, secure environment in which residents can develop their potential and autonomy, while cultivating meaningful social ties. Featuring welcoming common spaces and personalized rooms, this new living environment will offer a warm, adapted home for autistic adults in the Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec region, and will meet a great need among the region's families.
The creation of this new housing facility is not only a concrete response to requests expressed by citizens, but also corresponds to the ambitions of the City of Victoriaville, an inclusive city, by proposing a model that meets the orientations of the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services with regard to long-term housing, socio-professional activity programs and best practices for autistic adults aged 21 and over.
The Véro & Louis Foundation and the François Bourgeois Foundation are looking forward to concluding an agreement on the financing of future operating costs with the CIUSSS de la Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec, as they are ready to begin construction of the Maison Véro & Louis in Victoriaville.
